A Spring Saturday at Fairy Hill

    1. The pinkish-white ones? They are prairie crocuses, or pasque-flowers, anemone patens. They’re the first thing that blooms in the spring.

  1. Good for you to get out walking today. I was also wondering if those were of the crocus family. Always nice to see the first growth of a new season. The beginning of renewal. Something we need to remember, particularly this year.

    1. Those are tough flowers! They will grow in tame pastures, unlike most native wildflowers, and they survive snow and cold and keep going.

There are other things coming: I saw some wild strawberry, for instance, and kinnikinnick, also known as bearberry.
